Audacity: Playback and Selection Tips and Tricks

Audacity has a number of shortcuts to make life easier when editing.

The keyboard shortcuts make it possible to do things that are not possible using the mouse alone - for instance to select one area and to playback a different stretch.

Selection and Transport in Audacity

Make a selection and use the SPACEBAR...
...to start and stop playback.
Draw a line in the TIMELINE to play away from the selection.
Hit 1 to playback at the cursor position...
...but for one second only.
Pressing B has four uses...
Press C to simulate DELETING the selection.
...depending on CURSOR POSITION & SELECTION POSITION.

Use the mouse wheel or the UP and DOWN arrow keys...
...to increase or decrease the SELECTION START point.
Use the mouse wheel or the UP and DOWN arrow keys...
